Horizontal torrents rip through our umbrellas turning them inside-out within seconds, the hail that follows threatens to do the same to us. We decide our impromptu walk from the outskirts of Nara to Thirsty Donkey, a local drinking establishment serving beer and chips, in the depths of summer during heavy rain was a fairly bad idea.
It wasn’t raining when we started.
Copious quantities of beer help to soothe the biting pain of ice balls the size of Malteasers, whilst chips and dips keep us from going hungry, for a while. Soon, though, ravenous stomachs filled to the brim with flat beer start complaining.
