Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

The anticiptaion is almost too much to bear. 30 or so visitors gathered around a large muddy pool with the African savanah as a backdrop, somewhere on the outskirts of Kenya’s captial city, Nairobi. It’s a hot morning and I didn’t bring a hat. We’re accompanied by a mixture of couples and familes all nervously shifting from foot to foot, scanning the bleached horizon for a sign of the reason we’re all baking in the morning sun. Baby elephants.

A cry from the left signifies the arrival of the support act, although I’d argue a baby Rhino is easily worthy of a main act itself. The solid chonk of black Rhino happily trundles down the makeshift casueway towards us, his feet still far too big for his body, it’s single horn only just starting to show signs of growth. It’s a beautiful scene, a picture of happiness for what could have been a very different life for this orphaned Rhino.

And then the elephants arrive.

You can help support these elephants by adopting them and watch their progress as they are taught to look after themselves before being re-introduced in to the wild. Check out the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust website here. I’m no affilate and I don’t get paid by them, I’m just a passionate supporter.
