Huangyaguan Changcheng

March 23, 2015

Maurice is first to slip under the main gate, deftly ducking and rolling under the China-red wrought iron. With an almighty creak he unbolts the locked blockade from inside, allowing the monolithic gateway to gently swing outwards. There’s just enough space for us to slide through before locking it tight once again. It’s 5 A.M. on a chilly spring morning in Jixian and the Great Wall of China isn’t technically open, yet. But we’re on a tight schedule, so today we become ninjas.

P.s. I made that story up. Honest.
